MMD Australia, through Transmin Pty Ltd, has won an order to supply a primary SIZER™ to Robe River Iron Associates.
The first SIZER™, and the world's largest, is the MMD 1500, powered by twin 400kW drives, and able to process in excess of 10,000TPH. The second SIZER™, the MMD 750, processes the mine's iron ore at 600TPH, though can average up to 1,050TPH. Currently 40% of low grade ore that was previously dumped, is being processed, with a 60% recovery rate of high grade ore being achieved. This success has prompted the fast-tracking of Process Plant Number Two. "The MMD SIZERS™ were chosen for their proven design and
technical ability with patented scroll action, and unique long life
split sacrificial cap design." Said Evan Douglas of Transmin, the
MMD agent for WA and the NT. |

The
MMD 1300 SIZER™ was selected to size Mesa J orebody low grade
iron ore, which has a high clay content. The nine ring, four tooth SIZER™
is driven by a single 400kW drive, and is capable of handling in excess
of 2,000 Tonnes per hour (TPH) when sizing the hard dry pisolitic ore
and sticky clays (40%). Processing is conducted at Process Planet Number
Two at the Pannawonica mine site. Run of mine up to 2.2m will be fed
to the MMD 1300 SIZER™ at an average feed rate of 1,400TPH. Final
product size is nominally 285mm. Robe River's second process plant is
being designed by GRD Minproc, which plans to have the plant operational
by April 2001. This is the third MMD SIZER™ for Robe River, and
the second for processing its waste.
