Find out moreLoading trucks consistently close to their target payload improves productivity and reduces unnecessary wear on tyres, suspension and truck bodies. Underloaded trucks move less material per cycle, while overloading increases maintenance costs and shortens equipment life. Accurate, repeatable payloads also support safer haulage, more predictable production planning
One of the biggest bottlenecks is the interdependency between shovels and haul trucks. When either has to wait on the other, production slows and operating costs rise. Many mines are now investing in technologies that reduce this dependency by smoothing the flow of material between excavation and transport.
Truck bunching occurs when several haul trucks arrive at the loading area at once, creating queues and idle equipment. Mines reduce bunching through better dispatch systems, autonomous fleet management, and buffer-loading solutions that keep trucks moving through the loading area at a more even pace.
Poor shovel utilisation is caused by truck waiting times, inefficient fleet scheduling, double handling of material during clean up, inconsistent loading cycles and congestion around the loading area. Even a highly productive excavator sits idle for a large share of its shift when trucks aren't arriving on schedule. Reducing these interruptions and improving material flow lifts overall mine productivity.
