Position: FEA/DEM Engineer
Location: Douglas, Isle of Man
Type: Full-Time
Salary: Competitive, commensurate with experience
Reporting to: Group Managing Director & Principle Mechanical Engineer
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct detailed Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to evaluate structural performance, stresses and deformation of components.
- Utilise Discrete Element Modelling (DEM) to simulate material flow and interactions in complex systems.
- Develop and validate simulation models to support design and engineering decisions.
- Collaborate with design and engineering teams to optimise product performance and ensure feasibility.
- Interpret simulation results and present findings in clear, actionable reports.
- Identify and propose innovative solutions to complex engineering challenges.
- Maintain thorough documentation of all analyses, models and outcomes.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Proven experience in FEA and DEM, with a strong understanding of underlying principles and methods.
- Proficiency in simulation software (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus, EDEM, Rocky DEM, or similar tools).
- Solid understanding of material properties, structural mechanics and dynamics.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
- Ability to interpret and apply engineering standards and practices.
- Excellent communication skills for presenting technical findings to diverse audiences.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Proven experience in bulk materials handling.
- Willingness and ability to travel internationally as required.
Preferred Experience:
- Application of FEA/DEM in industries such as mining, manufacturing or materials handling.
- Experience in optimising designs for performance, durability and efficiency.
- Familiarity with CAD software and integration of CAD models into simulation workflows.
