For over 40 years MMD has delivered innovative solutions that improve the productivity, profitability and safety of our customer’s operations while minimising environmental impact. We work closely with our customers offering comprehensive support through an expanding global network of sales offices, manufacturing facilities, and service hubs, employing over 600 dedicated and experienced.

Job Description

The successful applicant will be working in the Technical Department under the guidance of the Senior Structural Design Engineer with their primary focus being Finite Element Analysis (FEA) of MMD proprietary and non-proprietary equipment.

The FEA Engineer will be involved in supporting aspects of MMD equipment design. They will ensure that the MMD design has been developed accordingly and tested under specified test conditions. It is their responsibility to make sure that the developed model meets all essential design codes, standards, and regulations ensuring the design is fit for purpose.

The FEA work involves analysis of stress and deflection of MMD designs under varying loading conditions to verify that the equipment will function as intended. The FEA Engineer will utilise 3D models at the design stage and subject them to predicted and/or known loading scenarios. Based on the outcomes of the analysis, they will evaluate and postprocess the results of the simulation and the necessary information will then be fed back into the design process. This can sometimes involve discussing the results with internal colleagues, external colleagues, and customers. The creation of internal as well as customer reports is essential.

General Duties

  •  Development of FEA models, to analyse the structural integrity and investigate the responses of various equipment parts, structures, and assemblies of equipment within the MMD portfolio under varied load conditions.
  •  Perform engineering calculations to validate the results and responses of the FEA models.
  •  Determine the loading and boundary conditions of FEA models. Make assumptions, troubleshoot, and debug FEA models.
  •  Produce technical reports in a clear and concise manner that present and summarise results and highlight areas that require design attention. Propose appropriate design changes to improve and optimise the overall performance of the subject.
  •  Working with the technical department to discuss and solve problems and determine appropriate actions and design and analysis methodologies.
  •  Analyse existing components and equipment as part of an on-going optimisation study.

Requirements

  •  Have experience using the following software: SolidWorks, ANSYS Mechanical, ACAD and the Microsoft Office Suite.
  •  Appreciation and knowledge of heavy engineering, mechanical design, and associated manufacturing methods.
  •  To be Degree qualified in a relevant area of Mechanical Engineering, alternatively have proven experience in a similar role.
  •  The ability to successfully multitask and meet restrictive deadlines whilst maintaining a high standard of work.
  •  Have good interpersonal skills, take pride in their work, and have an eye for detail. They must also be able to manage their own workload and over time would be expected to work independently with minimal supervision.
  •  The ability to successfully multitask and meet restrictive deadlines whilst maintaining a high standard of work.
  •  Willingness to partake in occasional short overseas travel.
