Project Manager (working with MMD Africa office)

The Design and Technical sector of the Group, MMD Design & Consultancy Ltd. (D&C) based in Derbyshire, England, are seeking a dedicated and skilled Project Manager (PM) to engage on a regular basis with our sales and manufacturing facility in South Africa, from tender and enquiry phase through to project execution. The main role of the PM based in the UK will be to assist MMD Africa’s team with all technical related matters associated with MMD equipment. There will also be occasions when the PM will support MMD interests outside of those related to MMD Africa, should the need arise.


As well as general PM work, they will also carry the responsibility of managing and monitoring other tasks which D&C perform for MMD Africa on a continuous basis. The PM will be the direct point of contact for all colleagues at MMD Africa and manage communications effectively, whilst utilising and liaising with the various D&C departments and `Subject Matter Experts’ (SME) responsible for carrying out specific technical and design-related tasks. The PM will engage with relevant departments and SME’s on a regular basis to ensure timely and efficient completion of duties in line with project schedules and commitments.


Job Duties and Key Responsibilities

Enquiries and Tenders:

Provide technical assistance to MMD Africa during enquiry phase in the form of:

  • Equipment calculations and selections
  • PSD and other performance metrics and data for MMD equipment
  • Schedules for D&C scope of work
  • 3D models, 2D drawings, and any other technical data for quotation purposes that align with MMD Africa tender requirements
  • Price builds that align with MMD Africa tender requirements
  • Quotations for D&C work (when applicable) that align with MMD Africa tender requirements

Project Execution:

Engaging with internal D&C departments and SME’s for the purpose of:

  • Responding to technical and production questions relating to designs and drawings
  • Responding to technical and production questions relating to project schedules and deliverables
  • Ensuring spare parts manuals are up to date based on feedback from MMD Africa
  • Managing requests for manuals to be updated
  • Continuous email and Microsoft Teams communications between MMD Africa and D&C
  • Assist MMD Africa with customer issues and troubleshooting relating to MMD equipment. This could include joining MMD Africa in customer facing meetings
  • Reviewing project/customer specifications
  • Provide MMD Africa with progress updates and schedules

Experience

  • Previously worked in a project’s related role
  • Background in the mining industry / heavy engineering is highly desirable, with exposure to plant and equipment layouts
  • Mechanical Engineering qualification
  • Project Management Professional certification (PMP) preferred or working towards
  • Familiar with engineering manufacturing methods, techniques, and procedures
  • Proven skills of using SolidWorks 3D and AutoCAD 2D computer aided design software

Requirements

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Computer literate (MS Office skills essential)
  • Report writing skills
  • Advanced knowledge of SolidWorks 3D software and associated data management
  • Knowledge of heavy engineering related design codes and specifications
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • High attention to detail and results and genuine pride in your work
  • Willingness to travel overseas
  • Ability to perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Good time management and organisation skills

Remuneration Package
