The 27th annual Canadian Mining Games took place at the University of Toronto, with MMD as Platinum Sponsor
Held over three days, the Games see mining engineering students from 10 national universities compete in a series of individual and team challenges, ranging from mineral identification to mine rescue. Sponsors of the Games regularly devise and adjudicate on challenges: MMD Canada’s Jenny Foran set the students the task of building a Sizer station using confectionery, truly testing their engineering creativity and resourcefulness.
We were very excited to be part of the Canadian Mining Games this year,
she said. Many of the participants have been Co-Op students on mine sites in Canada where MMD Sizers are currently being used. It was great to hear about their experiences and answer questions they have about our Twin Shaft Mineral Sizers. This event is always fun and rewarding for both students and sponsors, with many wonderful memories being made.
More important than the competition is the opportunity for students to meet industry professionals and fellow undergraduates through networking, social gatherings and career fairs. Many participants graduate into careers with the companies and peers they have met through the Games.
MMD would like to congratulate the organisers and everyone who took part in what was a truly outstanding event. In particular, special congratulations go to The University of British Columbia on their 2017 victory.
