Wayne Warwick’s 20-Year Engineering Career Journey at MMD Group

Meet Wayne Warwick, a Service Engineer at MMD Group who has built a 20+ year career with the company, progressing from apprentice fitter to supporting customers and equipment installations at remote mine sites around the world.

I originally decided to join MMD Group because my dad couldn’t recommend the company highly enough. At the time, I was working across the road at Summerfield Engineering, where MMD was one of our customers. This meant I was already exposed to different parts of MMD equipment. After seeing the variety of components that make up MMD Sizers, Feeders and other equipment, it sparked an interest in understanding how these individual parts come together to create the finished products.

Do you have an achievement in particular that you are proud of?

One of my proudest achievements has been working my way up to the role my dad previously held at MMD – Charge Hand. I’m also incredibly proud of how my confidence has developed since joining the Service Team, particularly being able to travel to remote mine sites and work independently.

How has you career changed over the past 20 years?

Over the past 20+ years, my career at MMD has evolved through several roles. I joined in 2004 as an apprentice, which led to becoming a full-time fitter in the factory. During this time, I gained experience across a range of areas, including building machines, spraying and shrink fitting. I then took on the role of heading up the Gearbox Shop, a position I took great pride in and was passionate about.

In 2023, I was offered the opportunity to become a Service Engineer, a role I have continued to enjoy ever since. Alongside this, I also support the team by driving MMD lorries when required. Throughout my career with MMD, I have supported customers and mining operations across different regions, gaining valuable experience working with complex equipment in challenging environments.

Do you have any advice for people looking into a career at MMD Group?

My advice to anyone wanting to join MMD is simple: embrace every opportunity. Not many companies can provide the range of benefits, experiences and career development opportunities that MMD offers. Be proud of what you do, and don’t be afraid to try a different role to expand your skillset, it’s better to try something new than never try at all.
